The Cole-Parmer® TELOS® phospholipid (PPD) removal plate provides a consistent phospholipid removal rate, giving more reliable and consistent results. Biological samples contain many phospholipids, which can often cause serious matrix effects, especially when using LC/MS. Protein precipitation on its own has very limited purification ability and is not a reliable process to remove phospholipids.

Once phospholipids enter the LC/MS system, they can accumulate on the HPLC column and at the ion source. This can negatively affect the lifespan of the column and lead to ion suppression effects for analytes of interest. The retention times of the peaks associated with the accumulated phospholipids can be unpredictable, worsening as the analysis proceeds. These phospholipid removal plates remove 99% of phospholipids simultaneously with protein removal, providing more reliable results, longer column lifetime, and improved MS sensitivity.
