Pull out or push in the filter stick to select from sodium (Na), potassium (K), lithium (Li), calcium (Ca), or barium (Ba) filters. The sample solution is aspirated into the flame, emitting a wavelength of light; the intensity of the light is proportional to the concentration of the atom in the solution. A photodetector measures the light and indicates the result on the digital display.
